  • General Manoj Mukund Naravane yesterday took charge as 28th Chief of the Army Staff.
  • SMS (Short Messaging Services) on post-paid mobiles phones in Kashmir valley has been fully restored from today after having been shut for five months when the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was scrapped by abolishing the Article 370. Broadband based Internet services in all government-run hospitals have been restored as well.
  • Bangladesh government has suspended mobile networks along the borders with India citing reasons “in the current circumstances”.

  • India’s Current account deficit (CAD) narrowed to 0.9 per cent of GDP, or $6.3 billion, in the September 2019 quarter, on account of lower trade deficit. The CAD is the difference between foreign exchange inflows and outflows.
  • India’s fiscal deficit hit 114.8 per cent of 2019-2020 Budget Estimate at Rs. 8.07 lakh crore at the end of November. The fiscal deficit is the gap between expenditure and revenue.

  • Uber India’s FY19 profits rise 63% to Rs. 43 crore.
  • UK government announced, Britain’s National Minimum wage will rise by more than 6%, taking to 8.74 pounds an hour.
  • Brazil has fined Facebook $1.65 million for improperly sharing users’ data in a case linked to the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
